Section 8 and Housing Assistance
Section 8 is a federal assistance program to help people with low-incomes pay their rent. People who receive Section 8 assistance pay a certain amount of rent based on their income and the remaining costs of rent is paid by the Section 8 program. Even though this is a federal program, Section 8 is administered locally by the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) which certifies the tenants and residences for participation in the program.
